A lot of people put off booking a hormone consultation for one simple reason: they don't know what to expect, and that uncertainty is enough to keep putting it off. If that's you, here's exactly what happens — step by step — so there are no surprises.

Before Your Visit

No referral is needed. You can call our office or submit a request through our website, and we'll get you scheduled directly. There's no gatekeeping step, no waiting on a referral from another provider — just a conversation to find a time that works.

Step 1: A Real Conversation, Not a Checklist

Your first visit is built around a genuine conversation — not a rushed ten-minute appointment. Expect up to two hours. Dr. Abbott goes through your full health history, current symptoms, lifestyle, sleep, stress levels, and goals before any treatment is discussed. If you've felt rushed or unheard at previous doctor visits, this is intentionally different.

Bring a list of your symptoms, even the ones that feel unrelated to each other — fatigue and low libido and brain fog can all trace back to the same root cause, and mentioning all of them helps build a complete picture. See 15 signs your hormones may be off if you want a reference before your visit.

Step 2: Bloodwork

Based on your symptoms and history, we'll order a comprehensive hormone panel — not a single marker, but a full picture that might include sex hormones, thyroid function, cortisol, and metabolic markers. The blood draw happens in-office. See what blood tests you should get for a full breakdown of what's typically included and why.

Step 3: Results & Your Treatment Plan

Labs are typically back within a few days. We'll schedule a follow-up to walk through your results together — what they mean, what's driving your symptoms, and what your options are. If treatment is a fit, Dr. Abbott builds a plan specific to your levels and goals, whether that's bio-identical hormone therapy, a referral for further evaluation, or a different approach entirely. Nothing is prescribed before your labs are reviewed.

Physician Insight

"I never want a patient to feel like they walked into a prescription pad. The first visit is about understanding you — the labs confirm what we're dealing with, but the conversation is where it starts."

Step 4: Ongoing Care

If you start treatment, follow-up labs every three to six months track how your levels are responding, and your plan gets adjusted as needed. Hormone therapy isn't a one-time prescription — it's an ongoing relationship with a provider who's tracking your progress over time.

Practical Details

We're open Monday through Thursday, 8am to 4:30pm, and closed Fridays. Most services, including hormone consultations and labs, qualify for payment through an HSA or FSA — bring your card at time of service. There's no insurance billing involved, which means no prior authorizations or surprise denials standing between you and getting answers.

Ready to Get Started?

If you've been putting off a hormone consultation because you weren't sure what it would involve, hopefully this removes the guesswork. The visit is built to be thorough, unhurried, and focused on you — not a rushed appointment that leaves you with more questions than you came in with.
