Most facials start with someone looking at your face and guessing. Ours starts with a camera that can actually see what's happening underneath it. The Alma IQ scan is one of the simplest parts of a visit to explain, and one of the most useful — it's the difference between a treatment plan built on a visual impression and one built on what your skin is actually doing.

What the Camera Actually Sees

The Alma IQ uses multiple lighting wavelengths to photograph layers of your skin that aren't visible under normal light or to the naked eye. It's completely non-invasive — there's no discomfort, no downtime, and the whole scan takes just a couple of minutes. What it produces is a detailed image set that our estheticians use to build your treatment plan, instead of relying on surface appearance alone.

What a Scan Can Reveal

  • Pigment irregularities sitting beneath the visible surface, before they're obvious
  • Oil gland activity and pore congestion patterns
  • UV damage that hasn't surfaced as visible sun spots yet
  • Early signs of collagen and elasticity loss
  • A visual baseline to compare against at your next visit, so progress is measured, not assumed

Why This Changes What We Recommend

A visual exam alone can miss a lot — pigment that hasn't darkened enough to see, or oil production patterns that explain recurring breakouts in one area but not another. When the scan shows something specific, the recommendation changes with it: a pigment-focused treatment plan looks very different from one built around oil regulation or collagen support. That's the point of scanning first rather than defaulting to a standard facial menu.

I'd rather show a patient their own scan and explain exactly what we're seeing than ask them to trust a guess.
From Our Clinical Director

"What I like most about the Alma IQ is that it takes the guesswork out of the conversation. Patients can see the same image we're looking at, which makes it a lot easier to understand why we're recommending one treatment over another — and it gives us a real before-and-after to track, not just an impression."

The Bottom Line

An Alma IQ scan is free with every facial consultation at Abbott, and it's the starting point for building a plan around what your skin actually needs rather than a fixed treatment menu. If hormones turn out to be part of what the scan and your history point to, that's a conversation our broader med spa team can connect you to as well.
